Top 5 Benefits of Massage for Kids

Updated: Mar 24

As both a parent and a massage therapist, I’m often asked about our son’s experience with holistic manual therapies such as chiropractic care, reiki, massage, and yoga. I’m passionate about sharing the mental, physical, and emotional benefits he has experienced. I’d love to offer my perspective—both personal and professional—on how these therapies may benefit your kiddo(s).

Sports & Athletics

Young athletes often experience the same repetitive stress injuries as adults. Introducing manual therapies early can support recovery, help prevent injury, and encourage lifelong self-care. Working with therapists also teaches children valuable tools like stretching and strengthening to support their physical health.

Therapeutic Touch & Self-Esteem

Humans are wired for connection, and healthy touch plays an important role in development. Massage helps children learn about appropriate therapeutic touch while empowering them to set boundaries. Children remain in control of their session—choosing pressure, lighting, music, and areas treated—building confidence and communication skills early on.

Mindfulness

Our kids are growing up in a fast-paced, tech-heavy world. Massage offers a chance to unplug, relax, and reconnect with their bodies. These experiences support the mind-body connection, helping children recognize tension, fatigue, and stress while nourishing the nervous system and activating “rest and digest.”

Stress & Anxiety

Stress isn’t just an adult experience. Children face academic pressure, social challenges, and anxiety of their own. Massage can help reduce stress, improve focus and concentration, and support better sleep.

Aches & Pains

From growing pains and sports injuries to headaches and postural strain from screens, children experience physical discomfort too. Massage can help relieve tension and support healthy soft tissue, just as it does for adults.

In today’s busy world, massage can be a powerful tool to support your child’s mental, physical, and emotional well-being. Sessions typically begin at 30 minutes, and a parent or family member is always welcome to join to ensure comfort and support. If you have any questions, let’s connect.

Cheers,

Shanda
